Experience

Khizar Arif, a Solicitor Advocate, has over 18 years’ experience in civil and commercial dispute resolution and litigation.

Having initially been called to the Bar of England in 2001, Khizar was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2004, attaining Higher Rights of Audience shortly thereafter. He holds a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) focused on international business and maritime law from the University of Hamburg, Germany.

Khizar has worked at various commercial law firms in and around the City of London, and in-house at shipping and metals trading companies in Hamburg. He has a distinguished reputation for complex, cross-border commercial work, commodities trade and shipping disputes, property, construction, contract, intellectual property, technology, media and employment law. Further, Khizar has a particular interest in renewable energy (both transactional work and disputes/claims management) having worked at an international law firm on various European and Asian offshore wind projects.

Khizar, who regularly appears in the County Courts and in the High Court, advises on all aspects of dispute management and litigation, from pre-action stage to settlement/ trial through to enforcement. He helps clients in informal negotiations and in alternative dispute resolution procedures such as mediation and arbitration.

Achievements

  • Represented a UK claimant in a complex £1bn cross border partnership dispute against multiple (UAE) parties (who were represented by ‘magic’/’silver’ circle law firms) in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
  • Advised a New York health consultancy services provider on its claim for £48m for breach of a services contract by an agency of a state in the Middle East in the Commercial Court.
  • Acted for an Italian industrial electrical equipment supplier against a Dubai based EPC services provider for breach of contract in ICC arbitration proceedings.
  • Advised a Contractor against a state agent Employer in EUR30m ad hoc arbitration claim based on breach of a FIDIC-based construction contract for emissions reduction works at a power plant.
